NEIL INNES & FATSO Farewell Posterity Tour
…Yet take parody out of it all, and the pieces still stand tall, which is a testament to Neil Innes’ special force. Indeed, they don’t make ‘em like this anymore. ****1/4
DMME.net (September 2014)
Not for the fainthearted and easily insulted, this double CD not only contains highly entertaining tracks but also highly entertaining sleeve notes…
Music-News (August 2014)
Of course, there is the obligatory ‘medley of hit’, as Neil puts it, as the band launches into a country version of The Urban Spaceman, the hit single that Neil had with The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
Great fun and great music.
Amplified (July 2014)
Yes it’s the old stuff dressed up – but it’s witty and it’s clever and it’s got the ‘Philosopher’s Song’ on it…for a good evening’s entertainment look no further.
R2 Magazine (July 2014)
Effortlessly humorous songwriter Neil Innes has been delighting audiences with his whimsical ditties ever since his stint with noted eccentrics the Bonzo Dog Band in the late sixties, and a country tinged re-vamp of the Bonzos’ infectious 1968 hit ‘I’m The Urban Spaceman’ provides one of the highlights of this easy on the ear live set.
Kevin Bryan, Regional Newspapers (June 2014)
…most tracks are performed here with avuncular good grace as opposed to sense-of-occasion verve. Five stars (and the rest) for material and musicianship…
Record Collector magazine (June 2014)
The overall musical feel of the album is slightly ‘countrified’ with the slide guitar of Roger Rettig taking precedence.
A couple of classic covers with I’m Walking (sung by Bremner) and Reet Petite are serious musical pauses in a very funny album with Innes’ lyrics being incisive (brutally so sometimes – check out Ego Warriors).
Of course, there is the obligatory ‘medley of hit’, as Neil puts it, as the band launches into a country version of The Urban Spaceman, the hit single that Neil had with The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Great fun and great music.
The Bolton News (May 2014)
We’ve been fans of this unique man’s music for such a very long time. Even if you have all of Neil’s music already (we do), you’ll want to pick this up to hear these great live recordings. Everything Innes touches is gold. Highly recommended. TOP PICK.
