Welcome to our January newsletter!
In January, we see in the new year with a remastered version of the stunning 1973 debut album from SNAFU, now with bonus tracks.
A 2 album on 1 CD set from DAVID COURTNEY is also released - featuring the lost gems 'Midsummer Madness' and 'Shooting Star' mastered and available commercially for the first time.
February sees the release of a new album from VERDEN ALLEN'S SOFT GROUND. Having released solo albums over the years, Verden has now returned to the studio to record a rock album with a full band sound whilst showcasing the swirling Hammond Organ, honed song writing skills and his striking vocals that are his trademark.
Also in the month, a much sought after classic 1974 album from SNAFU. 'Situation Normal', their second album, sees the band exploring a strong country rock route.
Finally, a classic album by WIDOWMAKER - the rock super group fronted by 'two of rock's most inflammable and provocative artists, STEVE ELLIS and ARIEL BENDER'. The album is now remastered with bonus tracks recorded live at The Paris Theatre, London 1976.

SNAFU Snafu (SJPCD407)
Released in 1973 the album
"Snafu" was the birth of one of the finest funk/R&B British acts of the
70's. BOBBY HARRISON who was the original drummer in PROCOL HARUM
and played on their HITS "Whiter Shade Of Pale" and "Homburg" had formed
FREEDOM switching to lead singer after leaving Procol and recording a
number of classic albums before in 1972 launching a solo career and by then

DAVID COURTNEY Midsummer Madness/Shooting Star (SJPCD409)
DAVID COURTNEY has,
through a long and successful career, achieved that elusive smash hit record
that many generations of songwriters strive to achieve. HIT songs such as
"One Man Band", " The Show Must Go On", "Giving It All Away" to name a few
On returning to the UK the album was mixed by
legendary Beatles engineer Geoff Emmerick. David on playback was not
comfortable it was the right album to follow "First Day" and he took the
difficult decision to mothball it. With hindsight he had produced a classic
Prog Rock album which is now released for the first time 35 years later.

VERDEN ALLEN founder member of MOTT THE HOOPLE has since the 2009 Mott The Hoople reunion (of which he was the driving force in facilitating) been working with his band SOFT GROUND on the live circuit.
Having released solo albums over the years he has now returned to the studio to record a rock album with a full band sound whilst showcasing the swirling Hammond Organ, honed song writing skills and his striking vocals that are his trademark.
'Love You And Leave You' is
an excellent mix of rock tracks and ballads and will appeal to both his
existing fans and those who are curiously open minded.

BOOK CHARTS RISE AND RISE OF ANGEL AIR
To celebrate Angel Air's 10th Anniversary a new book by James McCarraher was published in 2007.
'Angel Air is 10' is a welcome celebration of the label's first ten years and for any rocker of a certain age, and with an eye for trivia, makes essential reading. Where else could we read about Affinity, an early jazz rock stomping ground for the great Mo Foster, Warhorse (debut album on the Vertigo 'swirl' label) and what happened to Bobby Harrison of seventies funk rockers Snafu? Author James McCarraher has brought together the 200-plus label catalogue, prefacing each release with an essay culled mainly from the original liner notes.
David Randall, www.getreadytorock.com
...a celebration of the label rather than a detailed account of the every day ins and outs of a small independent record company...'Angel Air is 10' is as much a reference book as anything else.
More Black Than
Purple (June 2007)
AFFINITY The Baskerville Reunion (SJPCD398)
Here then is the reunion of 7 buddies to play some good music the old way, without recourse to modern technology, and the result is a delight throughout...
...21 numbers played with conviction, good humour and without any pretention; good versions of Satisfaction, Yesterday and Mr. Tambourine Man, to name some of the better known.
Highlands magazine (December 2012)
STACKRIDGE Radio Sessions 1971-1973 (SJPCD403)
...the otherwise unavailable The Lyder Loo, a discard from The Man ln The Bowler Hat album (on which the other three 1973 session tracks appeared in studio form) and a 15-minute version of the classic Slark from !971, with fabulous Mutter Slater flute, make them well worthy of exhumation...Quirky pop like this is a rarity today, and the rude vocal adlibs on The Road To Venezuela still raise a schoolboy srnile
Record Collector, (December 2012)
SAM APPLE PIE Sam Apple Pie (SJPCD401)
Far from the progressive edge of the UK blues boom, these London good time boys made a decent name for themselves playing competently and larking about on stage - something that clearly endeared them to large numbers of people.
Record Collector, (December 2012)
SNAFU Snafu (SJPCD407)
This album is a nice mix of funk, blues
and the soulful singing of Bobby Harrison, whose voice switches with
ease from the soul/funk of say 'Drowning In The Sea Of Love' to the more
straight ahead blues rock of 'Long Gone'...Two bonus songs on this
re-issue are the bluesy, heavy on the Hammond 'Sad Sunday' and 'Dixie
Queen', a decent 70's funk rock song.
