'Valley Girl' plumbs the depth with a measured funk and a mighty twang, though, while the sinister blues of 'Vodka Headed Woman' pushes the spell to the limits of sanity, yet if opener 'Louise, Lousie' throws a catchy twist on 'Louie, Louie' with a zany chug, closer 'Ain't Getting Mad' slows the pace to a vibrant walk along the plank. All's well that ends well, of course, and two PIRATES cuts hang nicely in there as concert bonuses, 'Don't Munchen It' killing it in style. The spirit lives on, then.
DMME.net (August 2014)
There are more unexpected gems in store here, for example the fabulously bluesy Muddy Waters number 'Rollin and Tumblin' (complete with slide guitar), or the particularly sly and sleazy 'Vodka Headed Woman' - all smouldering away oh so nicely. On a similar par is 'Bad Blood And Voodoo'.
Other scorchers are opener 'Louise Louise' and also 'I Can Tell' - beat whipping speedily, but perhaps the biggest surprise is a kickin' cover version of 'Casting My Spell' (oh, the irony!), a number originally penned in 1959 by The Johnson Brothers. The Spellkasters really have cranked up this ditty, so much so that in parts it's barely recognisable. Good work all round here!
Music-News (April 2014)
This is a fun listen and while it won't be considered a ground breaking achievement, the trio's heart is in the right place. If you like blues rock that fires on all cylinders you would do well to give Kastin' The Spell a spin.
Sea Of Tranquillity (March 2014)
While the band is not reinventing the wheel, they are playing music they love and paying homage to their friend and mentor, Mike Green, every time they jam together. They are doing what they love and it comes across in their music.
Classic Rock Revisited (February 2014)
A look at the dark side in Bad Blood And Voodoo and Vodka Headed Woman are but two of the many highlights of this album.
Lively stuff - just the thing for getting the heart pumping.
